Coasters for all
Coasters For All offers weekly group bike rides. It is a joint initiative between Wadebridge Coasters CC, Concern Wadebridge and Cycle Training Cornwall. Our aim is to promote, facilitate and encourage cycling among older people, and also those with disabilities or health issues. Cycling is an ideal activity to enjoy as we get older and can be extremely beneficial for people with a range of health issues.
Group Bike Rides
Friday mornings from March to November, departing from the Betjeman Centre at 10am (subject to appropriate weather conditions etc.).
Coasters For All group bike rides are designed to be as accessible as possible and invariably involve a gentle amble up the Camel Trail to find a cafe! Rides last a few hours.
Cyclists of all abilities are encouraged to take part, and every effort is made to include those with disabilities by making use of tricycles, tandems, e-bikes and other special cycling equipment.
These rides are FREE, but regular Coasters For All participants are encouraged to become members of Wadebridge Coasters CC which only costs £16 per year. This is not only essential for third party insurance cover, but also provides access to a growing and vibrant community with regular rides and social events.

There is a wealth of scientific evidence for the benefits of cycling, both in terms of physical and mental health. With the advent of electric bikes, cycling is becoming more and more accessible and popular for older people, and for those managing health issues. Many people who struggle with walking find they can cycle much further. Babs for example has to walk with crutches but can happily ride an adult tricycle: “Coasters For All has given me my freedom back. Thank you.”
Every week super-accessible group rides set off from The Betjeman Centre in search of a café on the Camel Trail. Some folk are riding standard bikes, others are on tricycles, tandem tricycles or even wheelchair bikes supplied by the local bike hire shops. It’s all very gentle, and very relaxed with plenty of smiles, chatting and laughter. Volunteers from WCCC, including local cycling instructor and coach Phil Keymer are always on hand to help out or give tips where needed.
David Whalley is one of the volunteers who accompanies each ride: ”I’ve helped with the Coasters for All bike rides since they started. This has been a truly rewarding experience. The number of people taking part continues to increase and it's brilliant to see the smiles on their faces.”
Thanks to lottery funding, bikes are hired at no cost to those taking part and the rides are free.
“With disabilities to deal with, we thought we wouldn’t be able to cycle again,” said regular riders Sandra and John, “until Wadebridge Coasters found a solution, and their specially organised rides have given us confidence and so much pleasure.”
